SOMEONE I USED TO KNOW

by Stan C. Countz

Between the rainbow above you and the valley below
I thought I saw a shadow of someone I used to know
Was it sleeping deep inside you trying to guide you to the top?
Was it keeping you on course or forcing you to stop?

Where did that shadow go? Who knows? Who hides the key?
That someone I used to know grows deep inside of me
Her voice rings in my ears, her face is all I see
She laughs at all my fears as I cry myself to sleep

I keep trying to dry my eyes but all I seem to do is weep
She cuts me down to size and leaves me broken in a heap
Soon the moon will rise and the road will grow too steep
She’ll believe those lies and the knife will cut deep

Where did she go? Where could she be?
That someone I used to know grows deep inside of me
Her voice rings loud and clear, her face is all I see
She laughs at all my fears as I cry myself to sleep

Where did she go? Where could she be?
When will I know? When will I be free?
Time goes by so slow like an ol’ willow tree
That someone I used to know grows deep inside of me

  1. Oh, this is so lyrical and resonates deeply to those feelings all of us can relate to....
